Openings available in New River programs

New River Community and Technical College still has openings in the Esthetics and Nail Technician certificate programs that will begin classes Aug. 18.

These programs are offered only at the Greenbrier Valley Campus in Lewisburg.

Esthetics is a branch of cosmetology that is specific to the care of skin and makeup. It involves beautifying the skin through a variety of techniques, including facials, skin analyzing, makeup artistry, microdermabrasion, facial treatments and skin care regimens.

The esthetics field also includes spa elements for the rest of the body, including aromatherapy, foot reflexology, waxing, eyebrow shaping and eyelash tinting.

The New River CTC program consists of 30 credit hours of instruction of both theoretical and practical skill development required for licensure by the West Virginia Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists. The program exceeds the 600 clock hours required by the state board.

The Nail Technician Certificate program consists of 18 credit hours of instruction in both theoretical and practical skill development (400 hours) required for licensure by the West Virginia Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists.

Licensing or certification exams are independent of graduation requirements. Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for the examination administered by the state board, provided all eligibility requirements are met.

Students in these program must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED). Both programs are eligible for federal financial aid. Anyone interested in enrolling for the fall semester should apply and schedule an interview as soon as possible.

For more information or to schedule an interview, contact Lisa Carter, program director, at 304-793-3009.
