New River CTC to offer ammo reloading class

New River Community and Technical College will offer a Comprehensive Ammunition Reloading Course in Summersville, starting Feb. 20. The class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays through March 27.

This course is ideal for sportsman and hunting enthusiasts who would enjoy the numerous benefits of learning this skill.

Instructor Kenneth Hayes said he has been reloading his own ammunition for more than 25 years and has taught this skill to many friends and family members.

There are many benefits of reloading your own ammunition; one of the biggest is the cost savings. Reloading your own ammunition is 33 percent to 50 percent cheaper than purchasing ammunition. Many people feel that there is improved accuracy as well. Customization for various desired outcomes, such as recoil, can also be taken into account.

Students will learn how to safely follow accepted hand loader guidelines, learn the nomenclature of the procedure and identify the various components of hand loading. Students will gain hands-on experience with quality supervision and receive advice from an experienced reloader. Students will also learn about various suppliers that sell the materials necessary.

This class will mostly focus on center fire rifle and pistol cartridges.

Tuition is $75, and a supply fee will also apply. The fee will vary depending on the caliber and load, but will not exceed $50.

For more information or to register, call 304-883-2446.
