Alderson Quilters and Crafters has been awarded funds for an Empowering Women Grant, offered through The Great-er Greenbrier Valley Community Foundation within the Greenbrier Valley Women’s Fund.
Members will have the opportunity to help empower women through their love of quilting and crafting. The first free class will be offered at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 29 in the meeting space at Dr. Erskine’s office near the State Fairgrounds in Ronceverte.
The first class is a basic sewing class, which will teach basic sewing skills — hemming, mending, beginning sewing, and how to make a quilt square. Future classes will instruct how to make a sampler lap quilt.
The members of the Alderson Quilters and Crafters are providing the instruction for the class, and all the materials and supplies will be provided by grant money.
As a guild, members say they are excited about this opportunity and feel it is a honor to help others learn the skills needed to make simple in-home sewing repairs and feel the sense of pride and accomplishment through the construction of a basic lap quilt.
