Methodist Temple plans 18th annual Christmas dinner

Members of United Methodist Temple in Beckley are expecting hundreds to attend the church’s annual community-wide free Christmas dinner Wednesday, Dec. 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This is the 18th year the church has hosted the traditional Christmas meal of turkey, dressing, ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, salad, cranberry sauce, hot rolls, cakes, pies and beverages. Meals are eat-in only.

Everyone is welcome.

The event occurs at The Place, behind United Methodist Temple, 201 Templeview Drive, Beckley. Both buildings are off Robert C. Byrd Drive, up the hill between Star USA Credit Union and Hometown Hyundai.

Free transportation will be provided by church mini-buses from various sites throughout Beckley.

Buses will run every 20 minutes, beginning at 10 a.m. Return trips will depart from The Place until 3 p.m. Stops are scheduled for Wildwood House, Beckley Newspapers, Carpenter’s Corner, Shoemaker Square, Salvation Army on Fayette Street, the Raleigh County Commission on Aging on South Kanawha Street and Pine Haven (behind FMRS) on Eisenhower Drive.

Last year the dinner provided free meals to nearly 300 area residents. Event planners are anticipating at least as many this year at The Place.

In case of snow, the road leading to The Place will be plowed for safe travel.
