Hinton museum plans Good Ol’ Days Celebration for May

Hinton’s Campbell-Flannagan-Murrell House Museum will host its second annual Good Ol’ Days Celebration from noon to 3 p.m. May 4.

This old-fashioned picnic costs $5 per person and includes your choice of tacos, hot dogs or sloppy joes, with a side salad and chips. Drinks will be available from the Chestnut Revival Teahouse on the lawn.

There will also be a bake sale featuring a variety of home-baked cakes, brownies, cookies and more. Last year’s plant sale was a great success, so they will be doing it again this year. The sale will feature perennials, annuals, and fruit trees.

A historic presentation about the Campbell-Flannagan-Murrell House and railroad heritage will be given at 1 p.m. The picnickers will also be entertained by local musician Sue Phillips on the newly renovated side porch of the CFM House.

Last year’s silent auction brought out an antique clock, original artwork, crystal, hand-knitted items, and an assortment of treasures. Stop by this year to find out what unique items will be up for auction.

All proceeds will go directly to the Campbell-Flannagan-Murrell House Museum’s restoration fund.

The museum has recently renovated the original outbuilding, and the front hallway is currently being re-plastered.

To learn more about the history, current events and future of Hinton’s oldest existing residence, check out the website at, and on Facebook.

For more information, call Julia Gaitor at 304-309-4101. If you have questions about CFM House membership or would like to schedule a tour of the museum, call Dwight Emrich at 304-466-1401.

The house is located at the corner of Summers Street and Fifth Avenue.
