The Hinton Area Foundation is sponsoring a free concert by the Montclair String Quartet at 1:30 p.m. today at the Ritz Theater in Hinton.
The Montclair String Quartet is the Quartet-in-Residence of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra in Charleston. Members of the Montclaire String Quartet are Amelia Chan, first violin; Anton Shelepov, second violin; Bernard Di Gregorio, viola; and Anrea Di Gregorio, cello. All members serve as principal players of their respective sections in the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra.
This performance features a variety of short works or “miniatures” and will include music by Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Ives, and others. The quartet has presents programs with a mix of classical and contemporary pieces. Members of the quartet will introduce and discuss the pieces.
A large part of Montclaire’s mission is to bring classical music to children throughout West Virginia, and the quartet plays about 70 programs per year, reaching as many as 14,000 children of all ages annually.
The quartet will also give presentations Monday at Summers County Middle School and Summers County High School.
The free concert and the presentations at the schools are made possible by grants and donations from the Ritz Theater, First Community Bank, First Century Bank, State Farm Insurance, and the Ziegler and Gunnoe Fund of the Hinton Area Foundation.
