Popular cooking school brings ’Homemade for the Holidays’

By Bev Davis
Register-Herald senior Editor

Some of you have already called about it. Now, we can answer your questions.

The 2008 Taste of Home Cooking School will be Monday and Tuesday, Nov. 10-11, at the Tamarack Conference Center in Beckley.

The Register-Herald joins the conference center, Sears and Wal-Mart of MacArthur in bringing back the cooking school that has drawn a packed house each year.

’There’s no doubt about how much our readers like Taste of Home,’ said Chuck Jessup, advertising director for The Register-Herald. ’We always get good feedback at the shows, and people start calling early in the fall to find out when the next show is coming to town. It’s a high-quality show, and the fact we can offer the same show one evening and during the next day enables people on different time schedules to be able to come out and enjoy it at the time that’s most convenient for them.’

The Nov. 10 show begins at 6:30 p.m. with doors opening at 4:30 p.m. The Nov. 11 show begins at 3 p.m. Doors open at 1 p.m.

National sponsors are Crisco, Crosse & Blackwell, Dickinsons, Dofino and Taste of Home Entertaining.

This year’s theme, ’Homemade for the Holidays,’ will be filled with great recipes and entertaining tips that will relieve your entertaining jitters, according to culinary specialist Cheryl Cohen, this year’s presenter.

’The key to successful entertaining is to simplify,’ Cohen said. ’Our shows are designed with today’s busy lifestyles in mind. We can help you take a lot of stress out of your planning so that you can enjoy your holiday more.’

Tickets are $12 each and go on sale Sept. 16. Call The Register-Herald’s business office at 304-255-4409.

Vendors who want to participate should call Anne Kelly at 304-255-4411.
