The West Virginia Board of Education will conduct a public hearing at the Beckley-based RESA I office next Monday to discuss issues regarding educating children with special needs.
The meeting, the first of eight public hearings scheduled across the state, will allow parents and interested persons a chance to discuss proposed revisions to Policy 24:19: Regulations for the Education of Students with Exceptionalities, which implements the education law that guides the education of students with disabilities.
Policy 24:19 also incorporates state law governing the education of students who are gifted.
The hearing, scheduled from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., will take place at the RESA I office at 400 Neville St.
A similar hearing will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. next Tuesday at Nicholas County High School in Summersville.
Written comments will be accepted between Nov. 27 and Jan. 5.
Copies of Policy 24:19 are available online at http://wvde.state.wv.us or http://wvde.state.wv.us/ose.
