A time for giving

The Register-Herald

As the weather reflects a tinge of chill in the air and frost on the ground, it signals a definite change in the seasons.

It also reminds us that we’re entering a season of giving.

One thing that doesn’t change about the people in our region — we’re certainly giving people.

That’s what makes West Virginians special.

We take care of our friends and neighbors.

And there is also no shortage of worthy causes and charities that support our state and communities.

The Spirit of Beckley.

The United Way’s Wonderland of Trees.

Mac’s Toy Fund.

The Wyoming County Toy Fund.

The Salvation Army, and its bell ringers.

Just to name a few.

As we have found out many times over the years, it is more blessed to give than receive.

Our hope is that those who have been blessed with an abundance will share their compassion and love for their fellow neighbors once again this season.

For those who can do even more this year, your generosity can go a long way in helping hundreds if not thousands of individuals and families. We trust that in meeting the needs of others, you receive a blessing as well.

It takes a lot to reach into your wallet or checkbook and help those less fortunate than us.

But it means even more when you reach into your heart to help provide for and love your neighbors in their time of need.

Thank you in advance for your generosity, southern West Virginia!

As we offer thanks for being able to give.

“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to do every good work.” — 2 Corinthians 9:7-8
