An open letter to Mr. Franco Beretta, executive vice president for Beretta USA

The Register-Herald

— Dear Mr. Beretta,

Recently the Honorable Richard Thompson, Speaker of the West Virginia House of Delegates, made it known that we here in the Mountain State would welcome the opportunity to have you relocate your firearms manufacturing operation to a location within our borders.

As we are sure you already know, the overwhelming majority of West Virginians are ardent supporters of the Second Amendment. So if our neighbors in Maryland no longer see gun rights and gun manufacturing as important, we can assure you that the political landscape and public attitude toward supporting your business here would be much different.

While there are many locations throughout our great state that could certainly accommodate your needs, we believe that somewhere in southern West Virginia would be a perfect fit for Beretta.

We are easily accessed by two Interstate highways, have two quality airports that offer daily commuter service and the capability of handling large commercial and private aircraft, community and technical college facilities that can easily adapt curriculum to quickly train qualified employees for your manufacturing needs, and a need for bringing yet another major economic engine to our region as we continue to diversify and grow.

Our quality of life, cost of living and the already present mechanical and manufacturing skill sets that many of our residents possess are another set of significant pluses.

Southern West Virginia also can boast about the hundreds of millions of dollars that have been invested throughout the region in just the last few years by the Boy Scouts of America and their new permanent home for the Jamboree and accompanying High Adventure Base Camp; a significant upgrade and expansion of the facilities at one of the world’s finest resorts, The Greenbrier; and numerous other projects related to a burgeoning tourism industry. And those are just a few of the many good things that are happening.

It would be easy to go on in much more detail, but we believe it would best serve both you and our region for you to come here to discuss and discover.

Mr. Beretta, come to southern West Virginia and meet with us. We know you will be glad you did.
