A kindergarten student is ready for school with a new pair of shoes she just received.
At 5:30 p.m., a father is able to come home from work to a place that he and his family can call their own.
In the afternoon, a Girl Scout or Boy Scout is exercising and learning how to live a healthy lifestyle.
All this is made possible through United Way’s funding.
Whether it’s lunchtime and a senior citizen needs a hot meal delivered to his or her home, or it’s midnight and the victim of a house fire needs support from the American Red Cross, your United Way donations allow these emergency services to be provided as well.
All of these worthwhile programs are possible thanks to local generous donors.
As this year’s campaign chair for United Way of Southern West Virginia, I, and campaign co-chair Sherrie Hunter, personally encourage you to contribute to the United Way of Southern West Virginia.
We are striving to raise $525,000 to fund important programs and services offered by our 34 community investment partners in the five counties of Raleigh, Summers, Nicholas, Fayette and Wyoming. It will take all of us working together — United — to reach this goal.
We have faith in our community and we know that we will succeed with our United Way donations at work.
We encourage anyone who has the financial resources to please consider sending a gift. Every gift, no matter the size, adds up when we are “United” to make a difference.
I would especially encourage any business that does not already participate with a workplace campaign to contact the United Way office to learn how easy it is. The number is 304-253-2111.
Our partner agencies need your help in order to keep providing valuable services in the areas of education, financial stability, health and support services to our friends, neighbors and co-workers.
We are fortunate to live and work in our great southern West Virginia region of America. Those of us who have had a measure of personal and professional success have an obligation to give back to others who perhaps haven’t had some of those same opportunities. The United Way provides a perfect vehicle for doing just that.
We invite you to learn more about the many ways you can get involved, give and benefit by becoming a United Way donor.
I contribute to the United Way because I know it makes a difference. United Way provides an efficient, effective way for the community to bring together local funds, local leadership and local agencies to address local needs.
Thank you very much to all of our donors and volunteers. My deepest appreciation goes out to all of you who have already given time and money. If you would like to make a personal tax-deductible contribution, send it to: United Way of Southern West Virginia, P.O. Box 5456, Beckley, WV 25801.
The Resort at Glade Springs, one of our significant business partners, will again this year contribute a portion of its Fright Night entrance fees to the United Way. Fright Nights begin Friday and continue each Friday and Saturday night through Oct. 26. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and close at 10:30 p.m.
