Tulane 66, Marshall 64
TULSA, Okla. — Ricky Tarrant hit a 3-pointer with seven seconds to play to give Tulane a 66-64 victory over Marshall Wednesday night in the opening round of the Conference -USA tournament.
Elijah Pittman’s 3-point shot in the closing seconds failed to connect, allowing Tulane to advance into today’s 6 p.m.quarterfinal meeting with top-seeded Memphis.
Marshall (13-19, 6-11 C-USA) led 29-20 at halftime behind 10 points from Dennis Tinnon.
Tinnon finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Nigel Spikes added nine rebounds for the Thundering Herd.
Tarrant led all scorers with 21 points for Tulane (19-13, 7-10). Josh Davis chipped in 18 points and 12w rebounds.
The Thundering Herd was 24 of 51 from the field and 3 of 16 from the 3-point circle. Tulane was 22 of 56 and hit 8 of 23 3s.
C-USA women
UTEP 70, Marshall 59
TULSA, Okla. - Miners' center Anete Steinberga scored 14 of her game-high 20 points in the second half as fifth-seeded UTEP rolled past No. 12 seed Marshall, 70-59, in day one of the 2013 Conference USA Women's Basketball Championship Wednesday afternoon at the Tulsa Convention Center.
Kelli Willingham had 16 points for UTEP (21-9), followed by Kayla Thornton with 13 and Irene Gari with 11.
Forward Chukwuka Ezeigbo led Marshall (9-21) with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Suporia Dickens was next for the Herd with 15 points and six boards,
