Lions take early lead

Concord holds 4-stroke edge over Charleston

Riding a wave of momentum, Concord took the lead after the first round of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Golf Championships.

The Mountain Lions finished Sunday with a 6-over-par 294 on the Cobb Course at The Resort at Glade Springs. Second-place Charleston is four strokes back at 298, followed by Davis & Elkins (306), defending champion Bluefield State (309) and West Liberty (315) to round out the top five.

Concord defeated its WVIAC foes to capture both the Central and Northern Regionals before Sunday’s start to the conference tournament.

A pair of Concord golfers are in a three-way tie for the individual lead. Nathaniel Begley, an Oak Hill High School graduate, and Stefan Labuschagne are tied with Cameron Buist of Davis & Elkins at 1-under 71.

The second round will start at 8 a.m. today.
