Concord drops NCAA Tournament opener to Millersville 5-4 in Winston-Salem

— WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — The Concord University baseball team lost its first game of the 2013 NCAA Tournament Thursday, dropping a 5-4 decision to Millersville at Gene Hooks Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The loss means Concord (36-19) will face the loser of the Winston-Salem State vs. East Stroudsburg contest 11:00 a.m.Friday in an elimination game.

Junior first baseman Joey Miller was 2-for-3 with one home run. Sophomore third baseman Ryan Johnston and freshman outfielder Andrew Seigel both recorded two-hit games with one RBI each.

Senior outfielder Jacob Mays was CU's fourth player to tally two hits Thursday, going 2-for-3 with one walk. As a team, Concord out hit Millersville 11-8.

Weatherholtz lasted five innings for Concord, striking out four batters and giving up all five runs on eight hits. Leather struck out three of 10 batters faced.
