BECKLEY — Marshall’s midweek schedule will have a Prospect League feel.

The Thundering Herd will return to Beckley today to host Morehead State at Linda K. Epling Stadium. Today’s first pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, Marshall will take on Eastern Kentucky at VA Memorial Stadium, home of the Chillicothe Paints.

The Herd’s presence in Beckley had been limited until last Wednesday’s 4-2 win over Ohio. After today, Marshall will host East Carolina May 10-12 in the first-ever Conference USA series at Epling Stadium. Then, the Herd and West Virginia will meet Tuesday, May 14, in the rubber game of their season series.

Head coach Jeff Waggoner’s team (16-26, 5-10 C-USA) is coming off Saturday’s doubleheader sweep at the hands of Tulane. After winning the first game of the series 4-3 in 11 innings Friday night, the Herd dropped Saturday’s first game 3-2 — also in 11 innings — then fell in the finale 7-3.

After a slow start to the season, senior center fielder Isaac Ballou is among the league leaders in several offensive categories. He is Marshall’s top hitter at .315 and has 14 doubles and 15 RBIs.

Andrew Dundon checks in at .307 with 16 runs batted in, while Nathan Gomez leads the Herd with 22 RBIs.

Morehead State (15-30, 9-12 Ohio Valley Conference) is led by first baseman Kane Sweeney, who is hitting .357, sixth in the OVC. He has reached base in 36 straight games.

Admission to today’s game is $5.
