Marshall dominates Concord

HUNTINGTON — Ryan Taylor’s 14 points and 10 rebounds paced Marshall’s 94-60 exhibition win over Concord Monday at the Cam Henderson Center.

Taylor shot 6 of 9 from the field in 21 minutes of action.

Four other players scored in double figures for the Thundering Herd, led by 15 each from Kareem Canty and Shawn Smith. Elijah Pittman and Chris Thomas both finished with 14.

Tamron Manning added nine points and TyQuane Goard grabbed 10 boards.

Concord got 15 points from Ali Barnes and 13 from Grant Dickinson. Woodrow Wilson alumnus Cam Shannon scored eight.

Marshall shot 16 of 29 (55.2 percent) from the floor in the second half and 33 of 61 (54.1 percent) for the game. The Mountain Lions were outrebounded 51-23.

With the score tied 13-13 early, Marshall went on a 15-6 run to take a 28-19 lead with six minutes left in the first half on its way to a 44-26 halftime lead.

The Herd extended its lead to as many as 40 points in the second half.

Concord’s regular season officially gets under way in Winston-Salem, N.C., with a pair of games at the WSSU Invitational Nov. 8-9 against Fayetteville State and host Winston-Salem State.

Marshall will start the season Friday, Nov, 8, at home against South Carolina State. Tip-off will be 7 p.m.
