CHARLOTTE, N.C. —
Candace Brown of Gardner-Webb was tabbed The Big South/Crons Brand Women’s Basketball Freshman of the Week for games played Jan. 21-27, the League announced today.
Brown, a four-year standout at Summers County High School, had a huge week. In a road loss to Presbyterian Jan. 24, Brown led GWU with 14 points, then a career-high, on 5-of-8 shooting (62.5 percent) from the floor and 4-of-6 (66.7 percent) from the free throw line. She also hauled in a team-high eight rebounds, and recorded three steals and two blocks on the defensive end.
Two days later at Charleston Southern, she exceeded those stats. She poured in a new career-high 22 points, on 10-of-15 shooting (66.7 percent) and was a perfect 2-of-2 from the charity stripe.
She led GWU's defensive effort, recording six steals and hauling in three rebounds in 39 minutes of play. The honor marks her first Big South Freshman of the Week plaudit this season
