WEST LIBERTY —
A West Liberty football player has been arrested on charges related to a slaying in Florida.
Deputy U.S. Marshal Chad Simpson in Wheeling says 24-year-old Vernon Dunnom was arraigned in Ohio County Magistrate Court on Friday on charges of first-degree homicide, attempted homicide and two counts of robbery.
Simpson says two people were shot, one fatally, during the robbery Nov. 17 in Miami Gardens, Fla. A warrant for Dunnom’s arrest was issued out of Miami-Dade County.
Dunnom is being held at Northern Regional Jail in Moundsville pending an extradition hearing. Jail records didn’t indicate whether Dunnom had an attorney.
Dunnom is a junior defensive end and running back from Pittsburg, Calif. He appeared in four games for West Liberty this season.
