CHILLICOTHE, Ohio —
Ronnie Dawson homered and drove in five runs as the Chillicothe Paints defeated the West Virginia Miners 7-2 Saturday.
Dawson, who was 2-for-5, hit a grand slam in the second inning for his Prospect League-leading seventh home run.
The homer came off Miners starter Andrew Bramley (2-3), who took the loss in his final appearance of the summer. The right-hander from Murray State was tagged for nine hits and six earned runs over six innings. He walked three and struck out two.
Chillicothe starter Lance Elder (2-1) picked up the win. He held the Miners to one run on five hits over seven innings, while striking out seven and not walking a batter.
David Martinelli, who walked four times and singled in West Virginia’s 10-6 win over Champion City on Friday, was 2-for-4 with a home run.
Taylor Kellner also homered for the Miners (24-15, 7-3 second half).
The teams will meet again at 4:05 p.m. today. Chase Boster (3-2, 0.39), Elder’s teammate at Marshall, will start for the Miners against the Paints’ Dalton Potts (0-0, 0.00).
