From staff and wire reports
If the recent past is any indication, then the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletics Conference Championship should have its share of intrigue.
The three-day tournament will begin today on the Cobb Course at The Resort at Glade Springs. Each day is scheduled to start at 8 a.m.
Bluefield State will be looking to win the championship for the second straight year. The Big Blues beat Pitt-Johnstown by two strokes to claim the title.
Repeating may prove difficult. Concord goes in as the hottest team, having won back-to-back tournaments.
The Mountain Lions won the Northern Regional last week, besting second-place Charleston by seven strokes. Davis & Elkins, Bluefield State and West Liberty rounded out the top five.
The Mountain Lions also registered a victory at the Central Regional last month. Concord finished eight-under par at the event, winning by 17 strokes. D&E, Bluefield State, Fairmont State and Charleston followed.
Concord’s Sebastian Starud, a native of Sweden, won the WVIAC individual championship last year. His teammate, Evan Muscari of Pineville, won this season’s Central Regional, while Charleston’s Jamin Smith took home top honors at the Northern Regional.
