Marshall women beat Ball State

HUNTINGTON — Marshall pulled down 56 rebounds, including 31 on the offensive boards, to down Ball State, 70-45 Saturday evening in the Cam Henderson Center.

Marshall moved to 2-1 with the victory, while Ball State dropped to 0-3.

The Thundering Herd limited the Cardinals to just 20 total rebounds, while Suporia Dickens and Chukwuka Ezeigbo had 12 each to lead Marshall.

“We had three goals today – play as hard as we could, play with as much positive energy as we could, and play with one purpose,” commented head coach Matt Daniel. “I thought we did that. We grew as the game went on and I’m really proud of the team effort, the collective body of work that we put together today.”

Marshall’s defense was relentless throughout the contest, allowing Ball State only 11 field goals, and  holding the Cardinals to 0-for-10 in three-pointers.

Four different Marshall players scored in double figures. Orlandria Williams recorded a career-high 18 points, going 6-of-13 from the field with four 3-pointers. She was two rebounds shy of a double-double, totaling eight rebounds.

Ezeigbo, freshman point guard Norrisha Victrum and post Leandra King added 10 points apiece.

Ball State was led by Brandy Woody with 12 points, while Shelbie Justice followed with 11.

Marshall will next travel to College Station, Texas, to play in the Texas A&M Classic during Thanksgiving weekend. The Herd will face Marquette and Southern in the three-day event.
