Marshall 3B Bossi suspended 4 games

Marshall will be without its starting third baseman for the next four games.

Aaron Bossi was suspended for his part in an altercation with Florida Atlantic catcher Kevin Abraham in Sunday’s 17-3 loss to the Owls at Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley. Abraham also received a four-game suspension.

The ruling was handed down by the Conference USA office.

The incident occurred in the second inning. With one out and the Thundering Herd trailing 2-0, Bossi took a pitch near his head from FAU starter Drew Jackson. Bossi stared at Jackson, and Abraham confronted Bossi.

Bossi then pushed Abraham, and both were immediately ejected by home plate umpire Joseph Smith.

NCAA rules regard a push as a fight. Section 16 of the rulebook provides that a player or coach ejected for fighting an opposing player is subject to a suspension from his team’s next four games.

Bossi went 5 for 8 in the first two games of the series. His eighth-inning single in Game 2 drove in the go-ahead run in a 7-3 win that clinched the series for the Herd, which is 11-18 overall and 7-7 in C-USA.

He will miss today’s game against Eastern Kentucky and Wednesday’s game versus Ohio, then the first two games of Marshall’s weekend series at UTSA.

Junior Johnathan Beary replaced Bossi Sunday and went 0 for 4 with a strikeout.
