The Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce will host an event aimed to inform businesses about the power of social media in today’s marketplace.
Sponsored by LA East Fitness Center and nTelos Wireline, the three-hour event, “I’m all a Twitter because my Facebook is LinkedIn,” kicks off Sept. 28 at 9 a.m. at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
Speaker Karen Kanakanui is a direct response copywriter and social media strategist who uses her skills to help clients hone their marketing message for social media.
Kanakanui leads two companies, Words Are Us, a business geared toward social media in the marketplace and CopyVox, a digital marketing company specialized in combining video, audio and compelling copy to engage online visitors and increase sales.
Ellen Taylor, president and CEO of the chamber, said she hopes everyone will take advantage of this opportunity.
“From what I’ve heard other businesses say, they don’t know how to use social media,” Taylor said. “They need to have courses on what social media is and why it’s important.”
The seminar will teach attendees things such as what social media is and if it’s right for one’s business. It also aims to teach the process for beginning in social media campaigns, online presence management and then provide an overall view of social media space.
Taylor said she expects the event to be well-attended because of the prevalence of social media in today’s society.
“This is the thing everyone seems to be doing now,” she said. “We all hear about it so much and I think there should be a lot of interest.”
People interested must reserve a spot. For individuals, it’s $30 per person and $20 per person if there are three or more from the same company.
To reserve, call the Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce at 304-252-7328.
