Landis elected to philanthropy group

Susan Landis, executive director of Beckley Area Foundation, has been elected to secretary of the board of directors for Philanthropy West Virginia, a statewide professional network of more than 70 private, family, corporate, community and public foundations dedicated to strengthening philanthropy in the state.

Philanthropy West Virginia was previously known as West Virginia Grantmakers.

A resident of Beckley, Landis is chair of the West Virginia Commission on the Arts, past president of the Theatre West Virginia board of directors, member of Beckley Concert Series and serves on the board of directors of the National Assembly of State Arts Associations and has represented the West Virginia Commission on the Arts at the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, where she co-chairs the External Affairs committee and chairs the nominating committee.

Landis is active with local civic organizations, including Black Diamond Girl Scout Council, Beckley Rotary Club, YMCA of Southern West Virginia, Raleigh County Public Library, Briarcliff Garden Club, Raleigh County Garden Council and Raleigh County Historical Society.

Last year, Philanthropy West Virginia awarded more than $32 million in the state’s 55 counties.
