West Virginia-owned Boston Beanery readies for opening at Crossroads Mall

BECKLEY — West Virginia Mountaineer sports fans will soon have a warm and welcoming restaurant and tavern to enjoy the games and gather with friends.

Boston Beanery Restaurant and Tavern will open in the Crossroads Mall Tuesday inside the old Garfield’s location.

Crews are putting the finishing touches on the newly remodeled location to make it unique for Boston Beanery customers.

Crossroads Mall general manager Kathy Housh said everything has been remodeled and the bar has been completely rebuilt.

“They’re really making it their own,” Housh said.

That’s certainly the style of Boston Beanery, as the first location was opened in Morgantown in 1983.

The West Virginia-owned company has since expanded, now with a total of eight locations in West Virginia, Virginia and Pennsylvania.

All the Boston Beanery locations are patterned after old Boston pubs from the 1800s, which were then called beaneries.

Housh is very excited about the full-service restaurant coming to the mall and the positive impact it will have on the local economy.

“The Boy Scouts have really emphasized helping and building the West Virginia economy. We already have several West Virginia-owned companies in our shopping center and we’re happy to welcome Boston Beanery. I’m really excited about having such a quality restaurant that’s West Virginia-owned and operated.”

The beanery will also help the local economy by providing nearly 70 jobs.

Housh said although she has not had a chance to visit any of the other Boston Beanery locations, she said she has heard great reviews.

“All of the customers I’ve spoken with who eat regularly at Boston Beanery when they attend WVU football games rave about their food,” Housh said. “I’ve never met anyone who has gone who hasn’t liked it.”

Their great reputation has arrived long before it opens its doors, not only for the great food, but for its community-oriented services.

Chad Drainer, regional manager, said Boston Beanery will be very involved with the community, especially with churches and schools.

“We’re absolutely excited about coming to Beckley,” Drainer said. “I think it’s going to be a great fit.”

Customers can look forward to a “Cheers-like” atmosphere at Boston Beanery, not to mention lots of cheers for the West Virginia Mountaineers.

The restaurant will serve a large selection of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, dinner entrees, pizza, barbecue ribs, as well as daily drink and happy hour specials.

Both large groups and small intimate meetings are welcomed at the beanery.

Hours of operation will be Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to midnight and Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m.
