Crossroads Chevrolet opens new 9-acre dealership

 

The Beckley area will once again have a Chevrolet presence with the opening of Crossroads Chevrolet across from Crossroads Mall.

Spokesman Rodney LeRose, whose family has been in the car business for more than 50 years and owns Mid-State Used Auto in Beckley as well as other dealerships in Nicholas County, explains. “We think there is a tremendous amount of pent-up demand for Chevy products in the area. R.L. Polk registration data shows that Chevrolet does not have the market share presence through the area and southeastern region of the state that other makes do.”

He said they expect Chevy to be in a high demand just to equal the average market penetration the brand has in other areas.

LeRose said patrons have already been exploring the models available on their lot even though the grand opening isn’t scheduled until Thursday.

In fact, while finishing touches are still going on inside the showrooms and facilities, Crossroads Chevrolet has already been selling cars.

“We have been selling cars all week. I introduced myself to a couple who had just signed the papers on a Traverse and they told me they had been waiting a year for us to open,” he said.

And he said it is an exciting time to be in the Chevy business as the company will unfurl 13 new models during 2013 including a Corvette, Traverse, Tahoe, Suburban and — most excitingly — the all new Malibu and Silverado.

LeRose said the first car sold off the lot was a 60th anniversary Corvette purchased by local businessman Donnie Holcomb.

And the size of the Crossroads showroom and full service facility is as large as they anticipate the local interest to be.

LeRose explained that Crossroads Chevrolet is a 38,316-square-foot facility built on nearly 9 acres.

“We knew with the demand and the excitement for a Chevrolet presence to be back in Beckley that it was going to take a very large facility to handle the volume of sales and service,” he said.

The facility includes a full service department and a fully enclosed service drive.

Each car that comes through the enclosed, climate-controlled service drive will receive a free alignment check with the new Hunter Drive Through Quick Check Rack, a machine that boasts an alignment check in less than 2 minutes.

There is also a 1,600-square-foot customers lounge with complimentary coffee, vending machines, a large play area, a 60-inch TV and free wifi.

LeRose said the business will also offer a free shuttle to and from Crossroads Mall during the day.

To run this mammoth facility, LeRose has already opened with 65 employees and expects to hire as many at 90 to 100 down the road.

“We would like people to come in and tour the facility and see what we have to offer, even if they are not currently in the market for a vehicle,” he invited.

LeRose also thanks his general contractor Norco Construction, of Summersville, and his subcontractors for “pulling together to get the dealership open in six months. To excavate and build a facility of this size since we broke ground in April is a pretty remarkable feat.”
