Jeremiah Johnson, marketing membership lead and Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) coordinator for Sam’s Club #4860 in Beckley, received the WVU Children’s Hospital Community Award for his work raising funds and support in the Beckley area.
Johnson has led the CMN team for six years. In 2012, he set a goal of becoming the top CMN fundraiser of all the Sam’s Clubs in the country. Johnson met this goal by raising more than $61,500 for WVU Children’s Hospital and CMN in one year.
This marked a 265 percent increase over the total he raised the previous year. He and a fellow associate traveled to Orlando, Fla., in October to be honored for their efforts.
“I think it’s safe to say that Jeremiah is WVU Children’s Hospital’s biggest fan in the Beckley area,” Cheryl Jones, R.N., director of WVU Children’s Hospital, said. “We appreciate his passion and all the work he has done to help support our mission to care for children from all over West Virginia.”
Johnson participates in several other activities to raise funds and awareness for WVU Children’s Hospital, including bringing toys to patients for Christmas, delivering lunches around Beckley during the annual radiothon and coordinating an annual Halloween tailgate party.
He also teamed up with Beckley Motorsports Park for “Racing for Miracles.” Drivers from all across the region participated and collected money in the stands for WVU Children’s Hospital patients.
When a family from Beckley was evicted from its home after spending several months at WVU Children’s Hospital, not only did Johnson help find a new home, but he spent days cleaning it and collecting donations from around the community to help furnish it so the family could return to a safe and healthy environment.
