Grand Home Furnishings to open new store in Beckley
Roanoke, Va.-based Grand Home Furnishings is preparing for a New Year’s Day grand opening in the old Goody’s building at Cranberry Creek in Beckley.
Steve Davis, vice president of advertising at Grand, said those visiting the new Beckley store can expect to see a wide array of quality furniture and mattresses.
Grand offers dining and master and children’s bedroom sets, sofas, sectional sofas, coffee tables, curios, lamps, home theater furnishings and recliners in brands like La-Z-Boy, Berkline, Lane, Paula Dean Home Collection, Kincaid and Klaussner.
“We’re very strong in selling mattresses, including Sealy, Serta and Simmons Tempur-Pedic mattresses,” he added. “That’s a big part of what we do.”
Customers are greeted with a frosty Coca-Cola in one of the small, glass bottles when they visit the store for the first time.
“It’s sort of a trademark that people remember us by,” Davis said. “We give 1.27 million a year.”
Two additional trademarks Davis said Grand representatives feel good about are the Grand 30-day satisfaction guarantee and the next-day delivery offered to customers.
“The 30-day satisfaction guarantee is a great thing,” he said. “Furniture isn’t something people buy often.
“They may be a little afraid, think it’s not going to fit in the house, or they get it home, they might not like it,” he said. “We take that furniture back for 30 days.”
Except for mattresses, all home furnishings are included in the guarantee, he said.
He said customers can get next-day delivery with Grand’s sophisticated distribution system, which runs delivery trucks “around the clock.”
“A person can by it tonight if they wanted, and tomorrow we can deliver it in their home,” he said.
Davis said he expects customers to be satisfied with the selection of furniture they will find at the new store.
“What we try to do is pay close attention to what the interests are in the different areas and what kind of style preferences (are popular),” he said. “Beckley’s not unlike many of our other locations, so it’s not as if we will be rolling out an entirely different line, but we want to be sure to have the kind of products we know customers in that area will find enjoyable.
“We always have a wide range of products.”
Founded in 1910 in Roanoke, Grand was purchased in 1945 by the family that currently owns the furniture store chain.
There are 15 stores in 14 cities in West Virginia, Virginia and Tennessee.
Grand built a new store in Lewisburg in 2006.
The Beckley store will be open to customers before the Jan. 1 grand opening, Davis said.
