Bloom Beauty Bar

Stylist determined to help clients ‘have great hair’

Fans of local stylist Chess Hutchens can rejoice now that the Bloom Beauty Bar has opened.

“It’s a full-service salon,” said Hutchens, owner, stylist and color specialist at the Beauty Bar. “We do cuts, color, waxing, spray tans and eventually we’ll do make-up. It’s kind of a one-stop place where you can get everything done.”

Hutchens says the most popular service is the hair-coloring, which ranges from $60 to $120. Pricing depends on the length of the hair and what type of color needs to be done.

Hutchens says giving Beckley and its people a makeover is her ongoing goal.

“Everyone should have great hair,” Hutchens said. “It is possible in Beckley. I promise. I started the Beauty Bar because I wanted to have a unique, relaxing salon. There are no other salons in Beckley like it, guaranteed. The atmosphere is very laid-back and relaxing. People will look forward to coming back to us.”

Hutchens’ cuts and colors are a hot commodity and have brought her old fans right back to her.

“I’ve been doing hair for a while,” Hutchens said. “Getting my old customers back has been pretty rewarding. They found me, I didn’t find them. That’s been pretty cool. It makes me feel like they like me.”

One fan has been getting her hair cut by Hutchens for nearly four years now.

“She takes good care of me and she always pays attention,” customer Autumn Davis-Hanks said. “No matter what I ask for, she does. If I just barely want my hair trimmed, she does that. She does my color absolutely perfect and I feel beautiful when I leave. She also has a great personality and is really easy to talk to.”

Bloom Beauty Bar provides services for both men and women. Hutchens says she is also currently hiring another stylist and applicants can send their resume to chesshutchens24@gmail. com.

Bloom Beauty Bar is located at 1469 Stanaford Road, Beckley. For more information, call Chess Hutchens at 304-253-2780. Business hours are Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
