Program exploring natural gas, private water

MORGANTOWN — Learn more about private water supplies and the regulations that accompany natural gas well drilling through an evening educational program at two locations from the West Virginia University Extension Service.

Representatives from WVU Extension Service and Penn State Cooperative Extension Service will present on topics like hydraulic fracturing, regulations, voluntary land-owner testing, leasing stipulations and more.

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection will present on its groundwater protection and underground injection control program.

The first event will be at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at the Winfield community building in Marion County. Contact WVU Extension Service Agriculture Agent John Murray at 304-367-2772 to learn more.

Doddridge County residents can learn more at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the Doddridge County Park building. For more information contact WVU Extension Agriculture Agent Dave Snively at 304-873-1801.

The growth and development of the Marcellus Shale in West Virginia creates both opportunities and concerns for public and private landowners, local communities and local and state governments.

West Virginia citizens and landowners have voiced many questions about the gas exploration process, fundamentals of leasing and environmental concerns.

WVU Extension Service’s oil and natural gas team will enhance programming to provide the expertise and knowledge that the citizens of West Virginia need to make informed decisions about the oil and natural gas industry.
