Griffith honored as Senior Careerist

Wayne B. Griffith, Chief executive officer at Princeton Community Hospital, was the recipient of the 2013 Senior Careerist Award by the American College of Healthcare Executives. The award was presented at the ACHE Breakfast  Sept. 26 in conjunction with the West Virginia Hospital Association’s 88th Annual Meeting at The Greenbrier resort.

Nominations for this award were open to all members of the WV-ACHE and submitted to the WV-ACHE Board of Directors for final selection.

The criteria for this lifetime achievement award include:

- A Fellow of ACHE

- A CEO, COO or other senior-level executive title within the organization

- Demonstration of leadership ability

- Demonstration of innovative and creative management

- Executive capability in developing his/her organization and promoting its growth and stature in the community

- Contributions to the development of others in the health care profession

- Demonstration of leadership in local, state or provincial hospital and health association activities

- Participation in civic/community activities and projects

- Demonstration of participation in College activities and interest in assisting ACHE in achieving its objectives

Griffith, FACHE, holds a Master of Hospital Administration degree from the Medical College of Virginia, Richmond, Va., and has served as CEO at PCH since 2005. Before coming to Princeton, he served as the CEO at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon, and as the Regional CEO for Appalachian Regional Healthcare in Kentucky.

His professional affiliations include the West Virginia Hospital Association where he served as president of the Board of Directors from 1999 to 2000, and as a board member from 1997 to present. He has been a member of the West Virginia Health Services Board of Directors from 2000 to present, and a Regional Policy Board alternate or delegate for the American Hospital Association from 2002 to 2013.

Griffith and his wife, Gail, have three grown sons: Mark, Scott and Brian. Free time is spent playing golf, traveling, and enjoying visits with his grandchildren.
