Whole. Fresh. Local.
That’s the motto of a newly opened restaurant, The Dish Cafe, located in Daniels.
Although this local restaurant is right in our backyard, many customers are saying The Dish Cafe has an “out-of-town feel.”
“It’s like dining at a restaurant in West Palm Beach, minus the palm trees,” said Devin Billeter, who is one of the six partners at the restaurant.
The Dish Cafe promises an eclectic culinary experience with unique flavor combinations and fresh ingredients.
The restaurant prides itself on buying locally grown fruits and vegetables, grass-fed beef, and pork and poultry free from antibiotics and hormones.
“I think nationally, consum-ers are becoming more aware of the benefits of a healthy, whole-foods diet,” partner Mi-chelle Rotellini said.
“People are discovering that if they avoid artificial ingredients, preservatives, food coloring, etc., they feel better.”
Rotellini said she had encountered a lot of people who were disappointed with the lack of options in Raleigh County for people who want a vegetarian, gluten-free, low-carb, or special diet.
“We had a passion to bring more food options to the area.”
The building where The Dish Cafe is now previously housed a Mexican restaurant, El Toro.
Rotellini said the color scheme was very bright and after multiple attempts to incorporate the colors into their concept, they eventually just started over with a fresh palette.
“We re-purposed and recycled a lot of the things that were in the Mexican restaurant. We had the booths upholstered and re-purposed a lot of artwork, light fixtures, tables and chairs from other restaurants in the area that were going out of business.”
This environmentally conscious crew also uses recycled to-go boxes and they recycle their egg cartons from their farm-fresh eggs.
The Dish Cafe currently employs 38 people, and applications are still being accepted.
“To me, being able to employ that many people is one of the most exciting parts,” said Beverly Hall, another partner.
One of the cooks, Paul, recently posted on his Facebook page how happy he is to be a part of such an extraordinary establishment. “I’m sure what we’re trying to accomplish will be something that will be the rave of the area.”
The restaurant just opened for business Wednesday and already has more than 600 likes on Facebook, so they’re off to a great start.
So far, the most popular menu items are the Swift Level beef items, Roasted Porketta, and the Hawaiian Flatbread.
Appetizers, soups, salads, flatbreads, sandwiches, quiche, burgers, steaks, comfort foods, and entrees are all a part of the menu at The Dish Cafe.
“The menu has something for everyone,” Rotellini said.
The restaurant is located at 466 Ritter Drive in Daniels. Hours are from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
The other partners are Rosemarie Corley, Tammy Billeter, and Mark Rotellini.
