Summers County will play host to the third New River Gorge Entrepreneurs’ Café March 25 at 6 p.m. at The Ritz Theatre in downtown Hinton.
“We held our second NRG Entrepreneurs’ Café in Fayetteville on Nov. 19, and it was a huge success,” explained Holly Clark, founder of the initiative. Kid in the Background, a multimedia production company, was the winner, walking away with $680.
The goal of the NRG Entrepreneurs’ Café is to provide a forum for local entrepreneurs to build a sense of community, increase their exposure and address funding needs for projects.
“I knew our small businesses could benefit from receiving a little seed money. It’s the perfect way to engage communities in helping their local businesses thrive,” added Clark.
Once each quarter, members of the community are invited to a location in one of the four New River Gorge counties (Fayette, Nicholas, Raleigh or Summers) for a meal. Cost to attend is $20. After expenses are subtracted, the proceeds are given to support a local project.
During the meal, entrepreneurs seeking financial support present their projects, and when dinner is over, everyone who purchased a meal gets to vote for their favorite project. The project that receives the most votes receives a micro award to support its development.
The NRG Entrepreneurs’ Café is organized by the following partners: The Ritz Theatre, Bridgemont Community and Technical College, New River Community and Technical College, New River Gorge Regional Development Authority, Telework West Virginia, Vision Shared Inc., West Virginia Small Business Development Center, Region 1 Workforce, and West Virginia State University.
