Pharmacy thrives, expands to 2nd store

While the casual driver around Raleigh County may perceive a glut of pharmacies, one independent owner sees things in a different light.

Sid Ilangovan opened Bypass Pharmacy on Eisenhower Drive in Beckley in 2010 with the help of his pharmacist brother Ulla.

According to Ilangovan, there is a need for the quantity of pharmacies in the area because of “more medications consumed in this area.”

An astute observation, it would seem, as Bypass Pharmacy found quick success. So much that the brothers decided to open a second store in Beaver.

Ilangovan said that decision was made after they realized that a large number of their patients were coming from the Shady Spring area. The Beaver branch of Bypass Pharmacy opened in September 2012.

Both shops offer free delivery, medication management services, classes for patients with hypertension and diabetes, drive-through pickup, and compounding, which is the modification of prescription medications to a particular strength, dosage or formula that involves mixing ingredients for a patient’s individual needs.

With so many pharmacies in the area, Ilangovan knows he must offer something different.

“We will make sure that the customer is happy,” and he counts on Bypass Pharmacy’s  “hometown,” customer-focused business model and the range of specialty services that they offer to set them apart from the other pharmacies in southern West Virginia.

For more information, call 304-256-2006 for the Beckley pharmacy and 304-252-3000 for the Beaver branch.
