OAK HILL — Snow-covered roads didn’t deter the crowd from heading to the Holiday Inn and Kem’s Restaurant on Dry Hill Road Thursday as part of the monthly Business After Hours event.

Organized by the Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce, Business After Hours events provide chamber members with the opportunity to connect with local business leaders and showcase their business in a social atmosphere.

While Kem’s Restaurant’s newly debuted “Firecracker Shrimp” pleased the palates of many, interested patrons were also able to get an insider’s look into the hotel’s well-equipped conference facilities.

“Even though most local people might not be staying at a hotel for themselves, this event exposes business people to what our area has to offer. That way, if the person has friends or family visiting in the future, this could possibly be a hotel they recommend,” said BRCCC President and CEO Ellen Taylor.

“And even still, the restaurant is open to the public and the conference center could be a future venue for local business people to hold meetings.”

Spring Short, director of conference sales for Holiday Inn, explained that Holiday Inn and Kem’s Restaurant chose to host the Business After Hours event in order to better acquaint themselves with the local community.

“We may be a hotel restaurant, but Kem’s isn’t your ordinary restaurant; we love to have locals dine with us,” Short said. “It’s a very family-friendly dining experience with fresh food. We even pat out our own hamburger patties each day, and not many restaurants do that.”

Short explained that each booth has a personal flat-screen TV and the American menu offers something for everyone, from children to vegetarians.

Brianne Lambert, food and beverage manager for Holiday Inn, added that Kem’s Restaurant recently launched a completely new menu, including everything from a bacon cheddar BBQ burger to garden penne pasta.

In order to promote the new menu, Kem’s Restaurant will be running a special promotion through July. For every $20 spent per person, a diner can enjoy a free appetizer as a “thank you” from Kem’s.
