— You’ve been working hard lately. When was the last day you were able to just sit down and relax anyway? Maybe you should look into The Nail Boutique in Beckley, whose owners say they’re working to become a one-stop relaxation shop.

The Nail Boutique calls itself “a trendy nail lounge and gift boutique,” but it has more than just things to help their customers relax. They encourage you to bring the kids and make it a family affair. The Boutique offers manicures, pedicures, artificial nails and gifts for friends and children.

“We also have children’s pedicure chairs that are Hello Kitty themed and are age-framed from 2 to 10 years old,” owner Lance Bush said. “We have little packages for children that we offer as well.”

A wide variety of customers find help and relaxation at The Nail Boutique.

“We’re always getting mothers who bring their daughters in,” he said. “We’ve had several male customers and even older customers come who have a harder time bending down to trim their toes and do that sort of maintenance.”

While there are several nail parlors in the area, Lance says the business has been very successful in the short time it has been open.

“Here, we’ve been able to offer things other than what every other nail salon is doing,” he said. “By doing the kids chairs and gift shop, we’ve been doing something that’s different and I think that people’ve been pleasantly surprised when they come in to see the things that we offer.”

Aside from its unique elements, The Nail Boutique also boasts a very skilled staff, Lance says.

“They can do some interesting designs and great artwork,” he said. “They’re very good at their craft. We also stand by our work. If a customer isn’t satisfied, we make sure we get it taken care of.”

It’s his wife’s experience that helps her to be so skilled, he added.

“Emily has been in the business for over 15 years,” he said. “We’ve had several salons in the past and we still have one in Lewisburg.”

Emily is also a licensed esthetician in several states and she says she will have a license for West Virginia in September. After that, The Nail Boutique will begin offering facials and waxing.

During this time, she and Lance are looking to expand their staff with another esthetician and a massage therapist. The couple says that they hope to be able to offer massage therapy and skin care no later than October. Emily says she also wants to have children’s clothing in the store by Christmas.

The couple says that running a business together, on top of raising a family, can be a challenge to keep their work and home lives separate. Lance says the couple’s secret to success is no real secret at all.

“I think being able to communicate with each other and being able to work it out before it builds up is great,” he said. “We are able to get off from work and go home and spend time together with our kids and just have a good time.”

Emily says her husband’s charm makes things easier, too.

“I think the main thing is that he makes me laugh, all the time,” she added. “That takes the stress away and we definitely laugh a lot.”

The Nail Boutique is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. To schedule an appointment, call 304-253-NAIL (6245), but walk-ins are accepted.

Lance says that fans of The Boutique can “like” their page on Facebook to keep up with the latest weekly and monthly specials.

The Nail Boutique is located at 1410 N. Eisenhower Drive in Beckley, next to Panera Bread.
