Sealing the deal

Two real estate firms become one — focused on southern West Virginia

— As 2012 was ending, two local real estate firms were sealing a deal for a new beginning. WV Realty Pros and HR Properties Unlimited merged on Dec. 1, consolidating operations in HR Properties’ Harper Road office but keeping the Realty Pros name.

“This way, we can tap into the really strong real estate market in two or three counties,” explains Jill Hendrick, one of the new company’s three owners.

Tommy Redden and Darlena McMillion are Hendrick’s partners in the new venture. Combined, the trio offers some 35 years of experience in the real estate field, Hendrick notes.

Pointing out that McMillion serves as the firm’s broker, Hendrick describes the strengths and experience of each of the three partners, saying, “Darlena brings years of experience and great knowledge of real estate. I have 10 years of mortgage experience and Tommy is very fluent in the foreclosure market. Tommy and I both have rentals, and I buy and sell houses.

“Together, we have conducted hundreds of transactions — no two alike. I can’t say we’ve seen it all, but we have seen quite a bit.”

Despite their divergent paths to this partnership, Hendrick says, “We are all compatible. We have similar values and beliefs, even though we have different negotiating skills.”

Hendrick also lauds the company’s “awesome team of Realtors” as being “experienced, seasoned, professional and goal-oriented.”

The decision to locate the consolidated business in the building she and Redden were already using was dictated by the office space needed to accommodate McMillion’s larger staff of employees, Hendrick says.

One benefit of having many employees, she notes, is the ability to have a Realtor on duty seven days a week to field phone calls and stay on top of breaking developments in property negotiations.

“You can provide this kind of service with the number of employees we now have,” Hendrick says.

“It’s a real exciting time to be in the real estate business,” she says, pointing to stable housing markets and relaxed lending restrictions, coupled with low interest rates.

“Buyers need the best representation they can get,” Hendrick maintains.

WV Realty Pros concentrates on properties in Raleigh and Wyoming counties, and Hendrick says she and her business partners hope to branch out more into Fayette County as the firm grows.

The company’s office at 1314 Harper Road is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
