Blackbird House offers a world of flavor

Wine, gourmet cheese offered at business

BECKLEY — A taste of Europe and its cuisine is now in Beckley at Blackbird House, located at 922 South Eisenhower Drive.

The Sue Dameron and her daughter Kelli Greco opened Blackbird House as a way to bring to Beckely the foods they enjoy during their world travels and give area residents a chance to have fine wines, gourmet cheeses and meat, Italian pastas and sauces, dips and crackers, coffee and more in their own town.

“I hope people enjoy that they can get gourmet items that they couldn’t find here,” Greco said.

Dameron added, “We’re excited for a new adventure.”

Blackbird House opened earlier this week, but a grand opening, complete with a wine tasting from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. is planned for Nov. 1. The wine tastings are planned to continue every Friday during the same time.

In addition to the weekly wine tastings, Blackbird House will host classes conducted by Lewisburg wine distributor Banks Jesser, who is stocking Blackbird House with its selection of wines.

The first wine class is slated for Nov. 30 and seating is limited. To stay up to date about upcoming classes or to register, visit or call 304-890-5474.

Among the food lines Blackbird House is offering its customers is Philadelphia-based DiBruno Bros. Also on the shelves are coffees from Ireland, Germany and Hawaii.

You don’t have to stop in and browse Blackbird House to get what you want to give or receive either. Dameron and Greco offer custom made gift baskets, which can include wines, foods, or bath products. However, there’s one thing that comes in each basket: The book “Blackbird House” by Alice Hoffman.

The mother-daughter team explained they love the book about life and its experiences and chose it as their business’ namesake.

The business is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays.
