New River Gorge Entrepreneurs' Café set

Global Entrepreneurship Week is coming up Nov. 18-24, and Raleigh County will celebrate by hosting the second New River Gorge Entrepreneurs’ Café.

The event will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 19 at McBee’s Irish Pub and Restaurant in uptown Beckley.

“We held our first NRG Entrepreneurs’ Café in Fayetteville on July 9, and it was a huge success,” explained Holly Clark, founder of the initiative.

The goal of the café is to provide a forum for local entrepreneurs to build a sense of community, increase their exposure and address their funding needs for projects.

Café programs provide small (micro) awards to entrepreneurs.

“Vision Shared was instrumental in suggesting we get a café started in the New River Gorge region, and I knew our small businesses could benefit from receiving a little seed money, Clark said.

“It’s the perfect way to engage communities in helping their local businesses thrive,” added Clark.

Cost to attend the quarterly events is $20, and the majority of that amount is given to support a local project.

During the meal, entrepreneurs seeking financial support present their projects, and when dinner is over, everyone who purchased a meal gets to vote for their favorite project.

The project that receives the most votes will receive a micro award to support its development.

The NRG Entrepreneurs’ Café is organized by Bridgemont Community and Technical College, New River Community and Technical College, New River Gorge Regional Development Authority, Telework West Virginia, Vision Shared Inc., West Virginia Small Business Development Center and Region 1 Workforce.
