ThoroughMed Health Care, a newly opened family health care clinic, promises quality care, patient education and one-on-one attention with an experienced health care provider.
Traci Morris, a local nurse practitioner, decided recently to open her own practice, which is located at 2401 South Kanawha Street in Suite 104 of the Beckley Medical Arts Building.
ThoroughMed has been open for a few months and Morris said everything is going very well so far.
“I have been a nurse in West Virginia for 18 years. I started out as an LPN and held that title for 13 years, then I got my RN, and went on to get my master’s as a nurse practitioner.”
Morris was born and raised in Coal City and has spent all 18 years of her nursing career in Beckley.
“I wanted to open this business because I wanted to practice independently as a nurse practitioner.”
She said there are five members, including herself, medical assistants and LPNs on the staff.
“We encourage the patients to be an active participant in their health care,” Morris explained.
“We want them to ask questions. We want them to be informed.”
She said ThoroughMed focuses on patient teaching and prevention.
“If I order a medication for them, I want to tell them what it is, how many milligrams it has and what the side effects are.”
For example, if she prescribes an antibiotic, she explains to her patient the importance of completing their treatment.
Oftentimes, Morris said she feels that patients receive information from the pharmacy, but either don’t take time to read about their medication or don’t fully understand it.
“We try to educate as much as possible here.”
She said she thinks patients enjoy the one-on-one attention they receive at ThoroughMed, and especially not feeling rushed.
“We don’t overbook. We allow at least 30 minutes for each patient. Some take longer and that’s OK, too.”
Walk-ins are welcome and appointments can be made by calling 304-860-1991.
