BECKLEY — Melton Mortuary, a long-standing funeral service pro-vider in Beckley, has recently been remodeled and will soon offer crematory services.

Owner H.E. Melton said the walls, furniture, floors and bathrooms have been given a facelift, and a new building has been erected behind the mortuary for crematory services.

“It had been a while since our last remodel and we certainly thought it was time for a change,” Melton said. A local designer was hired to execute the remodel and Melton said he is very pleased with how everything looks.

The crematory will be fully operational in September or October, according to Melton, and the funeral home will offer a special service not often found in the state.

Pet cremation services will be offered when the crematory is up and running, and Melton and his wife, Angie, say there is a huge demand in the area.

“Pets are a huge part of the family and it’s important to honor them,” Angie said. “We always try to go above and beyond to meet families’ needs.”

H.E. said no other facility in the county offers this service and very few in the state.

With the opening of the crematory, a retail line of products will also be available to customers, including items such as personalized jewelry.

Charms on bracelets and necklaces can be filled with the ashes of a loved one or their fingerprint can be engraved on jewelry items.

“These new items are a great way to help remember your loved ones,” H.E. said. “We do our best to relieve a grieving family.”

Melton Mortuary was started in January 1951 by Henry “Buster” Melton and his wife, Lillian. The business has remained in the family and is now operated by Buster’s son, H.E., and his wife, Angie.

H.E. became licensed in 1972 and became general manager of the mortuary in 1975. He has served as president of the State Funeral Director’s Association and as member and president of the state licensing board.

The current renovation is the fifth major renovation Melton Mortuary has undergone since opening in 1951.

“Our family has dedicated their lives to meeting the needs of others in their difficult time of need,” Melton said.

Melton Mortuary is located at 1200 Harper Road in Beckley. For more information, call 304-253-8100 or e-mail
