Johnson, Satterfield named certified Travel Marketing Professionals

— Maura Johnson, chief operating officer, and Becky Satterfield, Membership & group tour director of Visit Southern West Virginia, have earned certification as Travel Marketing Professionals (TMP) after completing a three-year program of the Southeast Tourism Society (STS) Marketing College.

The college is a professional development program that for one week each summer turns the facilities of University of North Georgia in Dahlonega into a classroom to teach tourism marketing.

Johnson and Satterfield were two of 57 new TMPs recognized at the STS spring meeting in Lexington, Ky., on March 25.

“We firmly believe and encourage our staff to continue their education,” said Doug Maddy, president and CEO of Visit Southern West Virginia. “There are constant changes in today’s marketing, and making sure our staff has the opportunity to stay on top of industry trends is part of our mission.”

Both Johnson and Satterfield say they are excited to take all that they have learned these last three years and use it to benefit Visit Southern West Virginia’s tourism membership and industry partners.

Visit Southern West Virginia promotes tourism in a nine-county region comprised of Raleigh, Mercer, Fayette, Summers, Wyoming, McDowell, Nicholas, Greenbrier and Monroe counties.
