Raleigh Playhouse welcomes Chamber’s Business After Hours

— The Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce members spent an evening at the theater on Thursday — The Raleigh Playhouse and Theatre, that is.

The Raleigh has been open and hosting live performances and showing movies since December, but the Chamber’s Business After Hours event gave its members a chance to see the new uptown business and what it has to offer the community.

BRCCC President and Chief Operating Officer Ellen Taylor explained the gathering and showcase of the theater is a great way for the business community to network with fellow businessmen and women in a relaxed environment, meet people new to the area and see new business in town.

“They always enjoy going someplace new,” Taylor said of chamber members. “It’s fun to see people you know.”

Taylor also said The Raleigh provides residents and visitors with yet another entertainment option for families or couples. She suggested that people can have dinner at McBee’s Irish Pub then go next door to the theater for a show.

George Bickey, artistic director at The Raleigh, said the “state-of-the-art” facility is a “very special place” in Beckley and the After Hours event was a good opportunity for those who haven’t been in the theater to see the venue.

Other than the theater and stage, the building also houses Sir Walter’s Tavern, which Bickey says is scheduled to open for business March 22. Because Sir Walter’s Tavern was not yet open, chamber members enjoyed food and drinks next door at McBee’s.

Businesses, groups and individuals can rent the theater facility for functions or special events if the schedule allows.
