With the retirement of John Eye, Grand Home Furnishings has announced it will acquire the John Eye/Big Sandy furniture stores in West Virginia.
The transaction is set to close in August and Grand Home Furnishings will acquire the Beckley, Lewisburg, Princeton and Summersville stores.
Grand Home Furnishings currently has two store locations in West Virginia, Beckley and Lewisburg, but after the transaction is complete, the Beckley location will move into the former John Eye Beckley store and the Lewisburg store will close.
The John Eye locations in Princeton and Summersville should become Grand Home Furnishings by the fall.
“We are looking forward to this company taking over the John Eye locations,” said Robert G. Bennett, executive vice president of Grand Home Furnishings.
“It’s very exciting and a great opportunity for growth, by combining our assets with theirs.”
John Eye thanked all of his friends, customers and employees, both past and present, for all their support.
Grand Home Furnishings does not carry televisions and appliances, so that portion of John Eye stores will be eliminated, but furniture and bedding sections will be expanded.
Grand currently operates 17 other stores in Virginia, Tennessee and West Virginia. The furniture store was founded in Roanoke in 1911. The company currently employs a total of 550 people at its stores, warehouses and corporate offices.
