Art, music club opens in Hinton

— Hinton community activist, musician and entrepreneur Ray Nutter has put his money where his mouth is, taking a bold step in his hometown by opening a full-time music venue.
His vision is to provide a “feel good” place that people would love to go to and one that their mothers and family would enjoy — a place with all types of cool music and great food where everyone can have fun and then want to come back to again and again.
In order to do this, Nutter has purchased the old Bobcat’s Den overlooking the New River across from historic Hinton. Unkl Ray’s Café and Music Den will include all styles of music, fine dining, legal beverages, a piano bar and a unique décor and atmosphere. The venue’s motto is “Where music makes the difference!”
“My vision will be reflected by the decor, classic album covers from all genres and time periods, music notes and even musical instruments on the walls, along side pictures of Hendrix, Nat Reese, Mozart, Howlin’ Wolf and ZZ Top,” Nutter said.
The music on the juke box will include Unkl Ray’s friends — musicians from all over the world, from Hinton to Israel — and even include classic hits from throughout history.
“That music makes a real difference,” Nutter said. “It’s good for the soul, and I think an eclectic representation is the best way to promote the art of music as well as to provide the most fun for the most people.”
The grand opening weekend begins at 5 p.m. Friday. The event features free live music until 2 a.m. both Friday and Saturday nights, and beginning at noon with Sunday brunch. Also, the 100th person through the door will receive free admission for an entire year.
