West Virginia State Police troopers from the Richwood and Summersville detachments in Nicholas County on Tuesday nabbed two convicts who had escaped Sunday from Denmar Correctional Facility in Pocahontas County.
Thomas Pennington, convicted of murder and sexual assault in Kanawha County, and Larry Morehead, serving a sentence for sexual assault in Nicholas County, had broken out of the facility around 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
Police had advised residents that the men were dangerous and that residents should keep their doors locked.
Just after 10 a.m. Monday, Trooper G.K. Davis of the Summersville detachment spotted Pennington walking on W.Va. 39 near Richwood.
Pennington attempted to dodge behind a building, police said, but Davis “got him.”
Once Pennington was taken into custody, Davis and Trooper D.L. Gordon of the Richwood detachment located Morehead “just up the road,” Gordon reported.Gordon said both men seemed resigned to the capture.
“They were done,” he said. “They more or less just gave up pretty easy.
Gordon said police were interviewing Morehead and Pennington around 11:30 a.m. to establish details of the escape.
