New River President Spring to take helm at Cape Fear CC

Leslie Baker, chair of the New River Community and Technical College Board of Governors, announced Monday that Dr. Ted D. Spring, who has served as New River’s president since 2005, has been named president of Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, N.C.

“Dr. Spring has provided exceptional leadership for New River during a critical time in its development. He has helped us lay the groundwork for future growth, and we wish him all the best in his new position,” Baker said.

Baker said that Spring informed the board when he was selected a finalist for the Cape Fear position, and they have already begun working with the administration to develop plans for the transition.

Spring will replace Dr. Eric B. McKeithan as CFCC’s fifth president. McKeithan retired on June 30 after 18 years as president. The selection is pending final approval from the N.C. State Board of Community Colleges. An official start date will be announced in the near future.

Barren Nobles, chairman of the CFCC Board of Trustees, explained that the board was impressed by Spring’s experience, enthusiasm and commitment to the mission of the community college.

“The presidential search process has identified an excellent choice for CFCC’s next president. Dr. Spring is an experienced, proven leader who possesses passion, integrity and vision. Given his past accomplishments, there is no doubt that he will be a valuable asset to our community. The board unanimously agrees that Dr. Spring is the clear choice to lead CVCC to the next level of success,” Nobles said.
