Beaver man dead following Thursday shooting

Investigation continuing, no arrests at this time says Raleigh Sheriff Steve Tanner

From Staff Reports

BECKLEY — A Raleigh County man is dead following a shooting at a residence in Beaver on Thursday.

Raleigh County Sheriff Steve Tanner said members of his department were dispatched to a residence on Country Club Drive at approximately 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Upon arrival, authorities found Christopher Ward, 39, of Beaver, dead from a single gunshot wound, Tanner said.

Tanner indicated that deputies recovered a gun and spoke with Michael Stines, 46, of Old Eccles Road, Beckley, at that time and he was cooperative with investigators.

Following further investigation and speaking with Raleigh County Prosecuting Attorney Kristen Keller, Tanner said his office elected not to charge Stines with any crime at this time. He added that the investigation is continuing.

“We are confident that the public is in no danger,” Tanner noted.

He did go on to say that a domestic situation between Ward and his wife apparently preceded the shooting.
