Beckley Council will take no further action against Pugh
After seeking outside legal guidance to determine whether Beckley Common Council could remove Mayor Emmett Pugh from office, Councilmen-at-Large Tim Berry and Cedric Robertson have recommended that no further action should be taken against the mayor.
Although they have elected not to take action to remove the mayor from office, the two said according to their attorney, they had a right to do so.

White's exit from speaker's race leaves gavel in Miley's hands
Finance Chairman Harry Keith White exited the race Friday for speaker of the House of Delegates, leaving the gavel in the hands of Tim Miley, after weeks-long jockeying for the right to use the No. 3 license plate in West Virginia.
While he is the heir-apparent to outgoing Speaker Rick Thompson, the nine-year delegate and chairman of the judiciary committee still spoke cautiously about Tuesday’s special session, called exclusively for the House. -
Bolen named assistant coach at East Tennessee State
When Mountain State University lost its general accreditation last year, head basketball coach Bob Bolen was among many that were left without a job.
However, as expected, he landed on his feet.
The lifelong Beckley resident and former head coach at MSU has officially been named an assistant coach at East Tennessee State. The move, which had been rumored for weeks, was announced by the school Friday morning. -
UPDATED: Pugh, Ethics Commission reach settlement agreement
Beckley Mayor Emmett Pugh will step down from his post effective Dec. 31, as part of a settlement agreement with the West Virginia Ethics Commission.

UPDATE: Suspect in Monroe murder in custody
State Police captured a suspect late Tuesday afternoon wanted in connection with the murder of a Monroe County man who had been missing for several days.
A police spokesperson said Joshua Neal Hubbard was brought in about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, following a search in Monroe and Greenbrier counties that began Monday and continued throughout the day Tuesday. -
Kiss appointed secretary of W.Va. Department of Revenue
Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin today announced Robert "Bob" S. Kiss will join his administration as Cabinet Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Revenue. Kiss' appointment becomes effective July 1, 2013. In the interim, Jason Pizatella will serve as Acting Cabinet Secretary.

A monstrous tornado at least a half-mile wide roared through the Oklahoma City suburbs Monday, flattening entire neighborhoods with winds up to 200 mph, setting buildings on fire and landing a direct blow on an elementary school. At least 37 people were reported killed.
