LEWISBURG — The Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man charged with murder Wednesday morning after he was accidentally released from the Southern Regional Jail on Tuesday, confirmed Jan Cahill, Greenbrier County Sheriff.

Cahill confirmed the sheriff’s office located Anthony Lee Ramsey, 51, of Alta, at a residence in Lewisburg Wednesday morning and re-arrested him without incident.

Joe DeLong, executive director of the West Virginia Regional Jail & Correctional Facility Authority, told The Register-Herald, “It is my understanding we received a release order that may have been a clerical error. On our end we processed a lawful order. These things do happen sometimes in our system, between the jails and the courts, because we process so many.”

DeLong indicated the administrative error must have come from the court system.

Officials in the Supreme Court Administrative Office in Charleston are looking into the incident, said Public Information Officer Jennifer Bundy. One source indicated that the mistake came from a magistrate court in Greenbrier County but Bundy could not confirm that on Wednesday.

Ramsey was originally arrested on Jan. 9, 2013, after allegedly shooting Brian Meadows, 25, of Talcott, after a verbal altercation. Ramsey was being held in Southern Regional Jail without bond while awaiting trial.
